Course Module 1: Project Management Overview

This course provides an overview of project management concepts and principles using lecture, small group case studies and discussions. We talk about the history of project management, the project life cycle, PMI and the importance of project management in today's global workplace.

It will introduce you to all nine areas of the PMBOK including:

  • Project Integration Management
  • Project Scope Management
  • Project Time Management
  • Project Cost Management
  • Project Quality Management
  • Project Human Resource Management
  • Project Communications Management
  • Project Risk Management
  • Project Procurement Management

Course Module 2: Scope Management

Module: Scope Management

This course module helps participants identify what is essential to ensure that the project includes all the work required, and only the work required, to complete the project successfully. Scope Management defines what is or is not included in the project. Completion of the project scope is measured against the project plan.

The Major PMBOK processes covered are:

  • Scope Planning
  • Scope Definition
  • Create a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
  • Scope Verification
  • Scope Control

Course Module 3: Project Cost and Schedule Management

This course addresses interaction of the triple constraints of project time, cost and scope. Our scheduling and cost estimating course will teach you the tools and techniques essential to perform realistic and accurate budgets and time schedules.
The course uses case studies, hands-on exercises and problem analysis to simulate the preparation of the project plan - the work breakdown structure, Gantt chart, critical path network, bottom-up project budget, and resource responsibility matrix.

The Major PMBOK processes covered are:

  • Activity Definition
  • Activity Sequencing
  • Activity Duration Estimating
  • Schedule Development
  • Schedule Control
  • Resource Planning
  • Cost Estimating
  • Cost Budgeting
  • Cost Control

Course Module 4: Project Risk Management

Module: Project Risk Management

The failure of project managers to assess project risks has been a major cause of project failures. Project managers must take the necessary steps to mitigate risks without compromising the dependability of the project plan. Risk management requires the determination of future events, their chance of occurrence and their impact. It then requires a choice of actions to mitigate against these risks.

The Major PMBOK processes covered are:

  • Risk Management Planning
  • Risk Identification
  • Qualitative Risk Analysis
  • Quantitative Risk Analysis
  • Risk Response Planning
  • Risk Monitoring and Control

Course Module 5: Project Quality Management

Module: Project Quality Management
The quality of your products and services is often the corner stone of customer retention. In today's market, every customer counts and delivering on time and within budget is only a piece of the retention equation. Our quality management course will provide a foundation for understanding the tools and techniques used to implement an organization-wide quality initiative. Hands-on group exercises will both teach and motivate participants towards cultivating a quality-focused environment.

The Major PMBOK processes covered are:

  • Quality Planning
  • Quality Assurance
  • Quality Control

Course Module 6: Human Resource & Communications Management

Project Human Resource Management concentrates on staff acquisition getting the human resources needed assigned to and working for the project. In this module we will discuss tools and techniques for negotiating with organizational units to acquire skilled staff, team building activities and leadership issues involved in managing a project team.
Communication effects everyone involved in the project. A successful Project Manager will make sure all project team members work together to ensure proper project team communications. This module describes the activities required to ensure timely and appropriate generation, collection, dissemination and storage of project information.

The Major PMBOK processes covered are:

  • Human Resource Planning
  • Acquiring a Project Team
  • Develop Project Teams
  • Manage Project Teams
  • Communications Planning
  • Information Distribution
  • Performance Reporting
  • Manage Stakeholders

Course Module 7: Summary Review & Final Project

Module: Summary Review & Final Project

This module will summarize and review the course material previously covered. We will reinforce how effective Project Management equals a successful project. Participants using the tools and techniques covered in previous modules will work in teams to complete a project case study. Each team will propose, plan, execute and deliver a full-scale project following it through the project life cycle, resolving issues and addressing questions while exercising proper judgment and decision making skills.
Your Project Will Consist of:

  • Defining the Scope of work for the project
  • Evaluate the feasibility of achieving the goals with the available resources and constraints
  • Identify and estimate the tasks and resources necessary to complete the work
  • Develop and implement plans for executing the project
  • Monitor and report on the progress of the project
